Harwich Heritage Maritime Trail
Wayfinding Signage
To celebrate the 400 year anniversary of the Mayflower crossing to the New World we were commissioned by Tendring District Council to design and develop a wayfinding trail to not just document the connection with the famous ship and its crew, but also the rich Maritime Heritage that associated with Harwich Town.
Our idea was to construct a set of wooden, rustic trail totem signs that resembled the ship's side and included large steel rivets and bright aluminium information graphics.
Each sign was connected with a trail map that indicated to other signs along a route and with details about the ship, its crew, US connections and naval history.
We also created 6ft high corten letters that spelt Harwich which will be displayed on Harwich Green early 2021 to be used as a photo opportunity for visitors. These letters would rust in time, to create a patina and look old and authentic to tie in with the maritime theme.

"We worked with Esigns Media on the Mayflower400 project which commemorated the ships sailing from England to America and were incredibly reassured and impressed by their ideas, creativity and attention to detail both during the planning and install of the Mayflower Trail in Harwich. We will be working on other projects with them in the future and would not hesitate to recommend them for this type of project."
